BIG RED HISTORY 2015

In April, 2015, while wrapping up filming of Big Red — The Original Outlaw Racer, the eight-episode documentary series, Big Red competed in the Mojave Magnum. The team performed a lot of engine tuning and gear changes to try for a new event record, while also getting some stiff competition from a modified twin-turbo Lamborghini Gallardo. RJ was able to set a new event record of 238.1 mph by the end of the day on Sunday. With plans of going to Bonneville, the team raced at El Mirage to get some seat time with the current ProCharged Elephant 598 engine combination with the blow-through carburetor. El Mirage is close to the shop where Big Red spends its quiet time, so it made sense to race and prepare for salt in their own backyard. With the combination of race setup and the condition of the lake bed, Big Red could only muster a 202-mph run. SCTA Mojave Mile, August 10, 2015: The salt at Bonneville was wet for 2015, so Speed Week was cancelled. The SCTA put together an event on asphalt for anyone who needed their speed fix. At the event, the 598 engine wasn’t looking good on Saturday afternoon. Never one to pass up more race time, RJ and the team loaded up Big Red and took it 80 miles away to the shop. They performed a late-night engine swap with the backup 598 and returned to race the next morning. Big Red set the top speed at the event at 232.9 mp

The September/October issue of Maximum Drive magazine marked the first time in Big Red’s history it had a cover and a full feature in a printed magazine while in full Bonneville/El Mirage Land Speed Racing setup. All other full features were in Road Race/Track mode. Big Red was on display at SEMA once again. This time it was on display in the NBCSN booth to promote the Big Red documentary series, which ran through December of that year. New and old fans from all over the world were pleasantly surprised to see the famous car and talk to RJ and the team. This was Big Red’s last public appearance before it was disassembled for the rebuild
